MILAN (AP) — At the Milan Cortina Olympic Games, winning medals isn’t the only thing making hearts swell. From the ice rinks to the snowy hills, love is in the frozen air. Some competitions already seem to have Cupid in attendance.

The 2026 Winter Olympics are in full swing in Milan, Italy, and the Olympic medal count as of the end of the day on Friday, Feb. 13, has revealed that two countries are neck-and-neck for the top spot. Neither of those countries is the United States, either, but the United States is No. 3 in the standings, as of Friday.

One represents Belgium and the other Brazil in skeleton, in which the racer slides near-blind down an ice track at well over 80 miles per hour.

But, a handful of countries are surprising analysts and ranking higher than expected. One of those countries is Japan, which sits at No. 10 in the medal count as of the end of the Games on Thursday. Another one is Australia, which only has one lone gold medal, but that still puts them at No. 14 on the ranking.
